Civilian sword, 18th century, with scabbard
During the Baroque period, this civilian weapon, known as the sword, developed. From the middle of the 17th century it gradually replaced the rapier, as there was a need for lighter and less bulky weapons such as the rapier. This is due to the increased population growth and the associated lack of space at that time. The sword was mostly wielded by members of the upper social class.
This civilian sword replica features a triangular cross-section EN45 spring steel blade that is unsharpened. The parrying element and the curved handguard are made of brass, with a wooden handle wrapped in brass wire.
The scabbard is made of leather-wrapped wood, with brass fittings and suspension rings, and a hook for attaching the scabbard to a belt.
