Aventail, Flat Riveted Rings, 8mm
Aventail, Flat Riveted Rings, 8 mm Inner Diameter, Round Rivet Heads
- Suitable for Historical Combat Reenactment -
An aventail is a mail curtain attached to a helmet, providing additional protection for the neck and shoulders during the Middle Ages. It was commonly fitted to nasal helmets and, above all, to the late medieval bascinet and its variant, the hounskull bascinet.
This ULFBERTH® aventail features an authentic jagged, interwoven edge and a sewn-on strip of thick leather. The customer must punch the attachment holes into the leather strip to fit their helmet. It is designed for mounting on nasal helmets or bascinets.
FRR Mail: This is a European-style mail construction made entirely from flat rings. Every ring is secured with round-headed rivets. The weave is the traditional 4-in-1 pattern.
We refer to this type of mail as FRR (Flat Rings with Round Rivet Heads).
