Large Pembridge Helmet, circa 1370, 2 mm steel

This replica is modeled after the helmet of Sir Richard Pembridge. The original is dated to around 1370 and is now housed in the Royal Scottish Museum in Edinburgh.

The so-called great helmets were often worn over a smaller, lighter helmet (e.g., a skullcap). They were widespread throughout Europe during the Middle Ages. Numerous contemporary illustrations (miniatures) and finds from Germany, Flanders, England, Italy, Switzerland, Austria, etc., attest to the popularity of this type of helmet. These helmets were used, among other battles, at the Battle of Crécy (1346) and Poitiers (1356).

The helmet has a comfortable leather liner and a chin strap with a brass buckle.
