Hourglass Gauntlets, c. 1390

Hourglass Gauntlets, c. 1390

Hourglass Gauntlets, c. 1390

Our battle-ready reproduction of late medieval hourglass gauntlets is meticulously handcrafted. Similar original gauntlets can be seen at Churburg Castle (Castel Coira) in South Tyrol and are believed to have been made around 1390 by a Milanese armourer.

These gauntlets are distinguished not only by their accurate craftsmanship and authentic appearance but also by their exceptional comfort. All finger joints are fully articulated, and a soft leather glove is completely sewn into the interior, ensuring a comfortable and secure fit.

Designed for reenactment combat, these armoured gauntlets are made from approximately 1.6 mm thick steel. The steel plates are also beautifully decorated and reinforced with brass fittings.

The inner gloves are made of light-coloured leather. Because the steel components are lightly oiled, some staining of the leather may occur over time.

Overall, these gauntlets are an almost perfect reproduction of the craftsmanship of late medieval armourers.
