Late Medieval Oakeshott Type One-Handed Sword with Steel Pommel,

This beautiful one-handed sword is a replica of a remarkably well-preserved original from the 14th century, classified as Type XIV according to the Oakeshott typology and on display at the Metropolitan Museum of Art ('The Met'), Gallery 373, in New York.

This replica features a spring steel blade forged through to the pommel, which has been hardened and tempered to approximately 48-50 HRC. The steel crossguard has curved ends, and the leather-wrapped wooden grip is topped with a sturdy steel pommel. The pommel is adorned with the Latin inscription "Sunt hic etiam sua praecuna laudi," a quote from Virgil's Aeneid (Book 1, line 461), which can be roughly translated as "Even here, glory is not without reward" or "Even here, merit is rewarded." The beautiful wooden-core scabbard is covered in leather and finished with a carrying strap wrapped around it.

With its blunt, 2 mm thick edges and rounded tip, this late medieval knight's sword is perfectly suited for reenactment, staged combat, or sparring.
