Norman shield - Almond-shape shield

Almond-shape shield, so called after its elongated silhouette with rounded top. Developed in northern Europe around the XIth century it gave a large protection to the mounted warriors against the enemy lances. Also known as Norman shield because it is depicted many times on the Bayeux tapestry (1066-1077), it evolved during the following century toward a triangular shape. Made in wood with a white linen covering that allow to paint it freely. Provided with an handgrip and leather belts to carry it on shoulder.
