Scutum, Authentic Roman Legionary Shield

Many replicas of Roman shields fall far short of the original finds and sometimes deviate significantly in size, shape, and design from the surviving artifacts. The ULFBERTH® team has addressed this problem and finally brought a much more authentic reconstruction to the market with this scutum.

The size and curvature correspond to Roman shields from approximately 40 to 200 AD. The shield boss (umbo) and the shield's rim are made of tinned brass and therefore closely resemble the original tinned bronze fittings. For practical reasons, the shield boss is still attached with screws and round screw covers. The back of the shield is reinforced with wooden strips.
