This Scottish basket-hilt broadsword in the Stirling style is a meticulously crafted replica of a classic basket-hilt broadsword, which played an important role in Scottish swordmaking during the 17th and 18th centuries. The elaborately crafted basket hilt with its delicate openwork decoration is particularly impressive, giving this sword its distinctive character.

Traditionally, two major styles of historic Scottish basket-hilted swords are distinguished: the Glasgow School and the Stirling School. While the Glasgow School is known for its more closed and compact basket-hilted constructions, the Stirling style is characterized by particularly elaborate, openwork designs with complex ornamentation.

Typical of the Stirling School are delicate openwork, flowing lines, circular motifs, and finely crafted geometric patterns. Famous Scottish swordsmiths such as John Allan Sr., John Allan Jr., and Walter Allan represent this exceptional craftsmanship. Their intricately designed basket-hilted swords are still considered outstanding examples of Scottish swordmaking.

This replica incorporates these characteristic design elements. The richly decorated basket hilt encloses the grip and simultaneously provides a prominent hand guard. The long, straight broadsword blade features several pronounced fullers, emphasizing the sword's commanding presence.

The black grip and the silver-colored metal fittings create a stylish contrast to the light-colored blade. The sword comes with a matching black scabbard featuring decorative metal fittings, completing its historical appearance.
