14th-Century Bassinet Helmet, 2mm steel

This 14th-century bascinet is a visor helmet, also known as a visored bascinet or Hundsgugel. This helmet was widely used in Europe during the 14th and 15th centuries. Derived from the bascinet, it gained popularity due to its superior facial protection and enhanced visibility.

The defining feature of this magnificent bascinet is its elongated, pointed visor, designed to deflect sword and arrow blows. Its angled shape helped deflect the impact away from the face, while ventilation holes facilitated breathing. Sometimes, attachment points were present on the lower rim for securing chainmail to protect the neck and shoulders. Made of 14-gauge steel, thick and heavy, it is ideal for controlled combat and armored training, where increased impact resistance is essential.

This 14th-century bascinet has a fully padded inner lining that helps balance its weight (approximately 3.9 kg) and ensures comfort and stability. It prevents chafing from plate armor and stays securely in place. A leather chin strap with a buckle secures the helmet during movement and is adjustable.

Each pig's head helmet is polished to a bright steel finish, giving it greater durability and a striking historical appearance. To protect the steel during transport, the helmet is lightly oiled; this should be wiped off before use.
