Dagger with Leather Scabbard – SK-C

Renaissance Parrying Dagger with Leather Scabbard – SK-C

Suitable for Stage Combat – SK-C

During the late Middle Ages and especially throughout the Renaissance, the parrying dagger (also known as a left-hand dagger or main gauche, French for "left hand") became an essential sidearm. Typically wielded in the left hand alongside a sword, rapier, or smallsword, it was designed for two-weapon fighting.

Its distinctive crossguard protected the wielder's hand and came in various historical forms—straight, S-shaped, downward-curved, sometimes featuring side rings or blade-catching projections. Primarily intended for defense, the parrying dagger was used to block, deflect, trap, or control an opponent's blade in close combat, while remaining highly effective as a thrusting weapon.

Elaborately crafted daggers also served as symbols of wealth and social status, often carried by knights and affluent citizens.

This affordable reproduction faithfully captures the appearance of a traditional Renaissance parrying dagger. The full-tang, unsharpened EN45 spring steel blade is hardened and tempered to approximately 48 HRC, with the tang invisibly threaded into the pommel. A wide fuller extends along approximately half the blade's length.

The grip features a wooden core wrapped in black leather, complemented by a sturdy steel crossguard approximately 12 cm wide and a matching steel pommel.

The dagger includes a high-quality brown vegetable-tanned leather scabbard, approximately 3 mm thick, carefully stitched and fitted with a practical belt loop.

With its rounded tip and blunt edges (approximately 1.5–2 mm thick), this dagger is ideal for historical reenactment, stage combat, light sparring, theatrical performances, or display.
