Gothic Cuirass, Breastplate, and Backplate, 15th Century, 1.2 mm Steel

This remarkably accurate replica of a late-medieval Gothic cuirass is based on a 15th-century German model (circa 1465). Crafted from 1.2 mm steel, it consists of a cuirass and backplate.

The cuirass features three-layered greaves that protect the hips, waist, groin, and abdomen. The fully articulated backplate is complemented by a flared backplate, consisting of three overlapping corrugated plates that protect the buttocks. All elements are secured with steel rivets. The front and back plates display the typical features of late-medieval Gothic plate armor (multi-layered structure, grooves, and intricate carvings). The interior of the armor is blackened for added corrosion protection.

This torso armor is composed of two halves joined by adjustable leather straps and buckles, allowing for a precise fit for a wide range of body types. The straps and buckles are securely riveted to the back plate at the shoulders and hips.

This wearable armor is perfect for historical reenactments of the late Middle Ages and Renaissance. The steel used is not stainless and may show slight signs of corrosion. Regular maintenance of the armor is recommended, for example with Ballistol, a universal oil ideal for protecting steel.
