German Stechhelm, circa 1500, 1.6 mm Steel

This helmet is an authentic reproduction of an early 16th-century South German Stechhelm.

The Stechhelm, also known as the Toad-Head Helmet, evolved in the early 15th century from the Great Helm (Kübelhelm or Topfhelm). It was used exclusively with the Gestech or Stechzeug (jousting armour) and was therefore designed solely for tournament use.

Our helmet features a fluted crown, a ship's bow-shaped pointed front, and a rear section with a raised, fluted neck guard. The individual parts of the helmet are joined together with decorative brass rivets, faithfully reproducing the original historical construction.

Side ventilation slots in the ear area not only improve hearing but also provide better airflow for the wearer. Beneath the crown, the helmet is fitted with a thick fabric lining for added comfort. It can be securely attached to a suit of armour using the pre-drilled mounting holes and the rear fastening bracket.
