Barbute helmet, Venetian Sallet

The Barbute helmet, a variant of the sallet (also called a sallet), is derived from the bascinet. This visorless helmet, of Italian origin, was widespread in northern Italy during the 14th and 15th centuries, but was also worn throughout Europe. Barbuta helmets offered good head and face protection without excessively hindering vision or breathing. The helmet's round skullcap covered almost the entire head and neck and often featured a central crest or low rib extending from the forehead to the nape of the neck. This helmet has an open, V-shaped visor, leaving the face uncovered.

The Barbuta resembles classical Greek helmets (most strikingly the Corinthian) and may have been influenced by a renewed interest in ancient artifacts that was common during this period.

This medieval Barbuta helmet is handcrafted from carbon steel and is fully wearable. It was used by heavy cavalry during the Middle Ages (available in thicknesses of 1.2 mm and 1.5 mm).

For maximum comfort, the helmet is equipped with an inner lining (padded leather) and a chin strap.

This medieval Barbute helmet is not ideal for combat as the face is exposed, but it is perfect for historical reenactments, parades, or live-action role-playing (LARP) games, thanks to its incredible historical accuracy.
