El Cid’s Sword Tizona, Silver Color – Marto

Tizona is the name of the sword carried by Rodrigo Díaz de Vivar, El Cid, who used it to fight the Moors in Spain, according to the Cantar de Mio Cid. The name Tizón means “burning stick” or “firebrand.” A sword identified as Tizona is displayed at the Museo de Burgos. Tizona, or Tizón, is one of the swords (along with La Colada) attributed to El Cid in Spanish literature.

According to the Cantar de Mio Cid, El Cid won the sword from its former owner, King Yucef of Valencia. It was later given by El Cid to his sons-in-law, the Infantes of Carrión, but eventually returned to El Cid.
