Sword of Lancelot
Sword of Lancelot
Sir Lancelot du Lac was one of the Knights of the Round Table in Arthurian legend. He is generally regarded as King Arthur’s greatest companion, the lord of Joyous Gard, and the finest swordsman and knight of his time. As a knight of King Arthur, Sir Lancelot became one of the most legendary figures of the Round Table. Queen Guinevere was his lady when he took his knightly vows.
Lancelot continued his chivalric adventures by conquering the castle of the Dolorous Guard, betraying his origins as Lancelot du Lac, son of the brave and generous King Ban of Benoic, who had fought alongside King Arthur and lost his kingdom. His son Lancelot was sent, accompanied by the Lady of the Lake, to be knighted at King Arthur’s court.
His love affair with Queen Guinevere led him to fight many of the Knights of the Round Table who sought to restore their master’s honor. After defeating them one by one, Lancelot admitted his infidelity to the king and retired to a monastery to repent and atone for his sins.
Before his death, the Lady of the Lake came to help him, and together they disappeared forever into the lake, honoring his name, Lancelot of the Lake.
