Claymore Sword

Claymore Sword

Claymore Sword

The claymore is a two-handed sword used in Scotland during the 16th and 17th centuries.

There are various names and spellings for this sword, most of them derived from Gaelic: Claidheamh-mòr, Claidheamh mòr, Glaymore, and others, all simply meaning “great sword”.

It is a long, double-edged sword with a wide guard, often V-shaped, whose ends are decorated with circular ornaments.

Historical claymores often featured a long leather-wrapped grip.

The blade of this two-handed sword is hand-forged from carbon steel. The handle is made of wood wrapped in leather. The blade is unsharpened.

Details:

  • Blade material: carbon steel

  • Overall length: approx. 140 cm (55.1 in)

  • Blade length: approx. 105 cm (41.3 in)

  • Blade width: approx. 4.6 cm (1.8 in)

  • Weight: approx. 2.7 kg (6.0 lb)

The steel used is not stainless and may show slight signs of corrosion. We recommend regular maintenance of both the blade and scabbard, for example with Ballistol, a universal oil that is well suited for preserving steel items.
