A helmet aventail is a piece of chainmail attached to a helmet in the Middle Ages to provide additional protection for the neck and shoulders. It was commonly used with nasal helmets, but most notably with late medieval bascinets and their variant, the *hundsgugel* (houndskull).

This chainmail aventail by Ulfberth features an authentic scalloped edge and a sewn-on strip of thick cowhide leather. The customer is intended to punch the necessary attachment holes into this leather strip to secure it to the helmet—such as a *hundsgugel* or bascinet.

The RRR Chainmail Weave: This mail consists entirely of round rings with round rivet heads. Each individual ring is riveted by hand. The weave pattern is 4-in-1. We designate this type of weave as RRR (Round Ring Riveted).
